This has been bugging me for a while. I've always wondered, if you were to travel back in time to fix a mistake/make something better in your life, than wouldn't that purpose cancel out? I mean think about it. IE: You go back in time to take up that interview with McDonalds or whatevs, but then when you do the interview, you get the job or something, but you took the interview, so you had no need to go back in time for it then. So wouldn't everything just go back to the way they were? Yes it's a paradox. Yes it's confusing.

That's always bothered me too.

The way I see it, when you go back and remove the need to go forward, than that becomes the default reality, and so it doesn't revert. Or, the universe is like a tree, and every reality is like a branch. When you go back in time and change something, it's like another sprout off of that branch, and both realitys continue to go on. The one you "fixed" has you with the job, and you left the one where you did not get the job, so in there, there's no you.

hmm....perhaps, but what I'm saying is that if you change the past, it will change the future, causing you to not have to change the past, causing things to go back to normal, creating the ultimate paradox, leading to perhaps the destruction of your life.

Have either of you seen the movie Frequency? Good movie, about this guy who comes into contact with his late father through a radio. The son warns the father that he's going to die in a fire, but he could have survived if he had just went the other way. All in all, the son had at least eight different childhood memories, it was weird...

But I always just that that if you do go back in time to change your past, you're creating a whole new universe in which the change is made in whereas the other universe in which the dude went back in time to change whatever will go on and just repeat itself. Something like a fork in the road... To go to the right is to go back in time to make that change and there are more than likely not going to be any more forks in the road after that. To go to left is the original time line going on without the made change and is likely to encounter the same fork in the road from there on out.

...If that makes any sense at all.
